February Newslettter ~ The PEDLAR Team Update

Welcome To February

The snow and cold weather is here!! Hope everyone is staying warm because our office is if you were wondering about coming in to discuss buying or selling property in the area. Get out and enjoy some winter activities while the snow is here and embrace the Canadian winter lifestyle. Go snow shoeing or cross country skiing in the Pinery Park. Tie your skates up and play some pond hockey on the old ausable river bed. Get out on your snowmobiles and enjoy the miles of ski trails. There are some great spots still open over the winter months here in Grand Bend. Come and support your local business and thank them for remaining open over winter!

Transit Funds Announced In
Southwestern Ontario

A transportation program started by the provincial Liberals will remain in motion with the new Conservative Government under Doug Ford. This is great news for the residents of all areas involved. From Grand Bend's perspective the transit system is a great way to bring local people (young and old) looking for work. Employees can get to town easily without the need for a car and all the costs involved with car ownership. Alternatively we are becoming more and more of a retirement community. As we know with getting older you can lose your licence or simply not be comfortable with driving. The transit program would be of great benefit to this group of people so that they can feel a sense of independence and go visit their sister or brother in London for the day. This transit system would connect us to Toronto and makes movement much easier for our residents. Of course an obvious benefit for Grand Bend business owners is how much easier it becomes for anybody in Southwestern Ontario to come and visit our beautiful town of Grand Bend.

Lambton Shores, Middlesex County, Strathroy Caradoc, Chatham-Kent, Grey County, Perth County, Stratford and Tillsonburg, are getting a total of $11.65 million for local or inter-community transit projects. Among the projects is a planned bus service linking Sarnia to London through Strathroy and Mt. Brydges. The project, first given the funding approval by the previous Liberal government, has survived the Ford government’s so called line-by-line audit of government spending promised after the June election. The grants are given to municipalities so they can partner with community organizations, health agencies, transit companies, and school bus and private transportation operators to better coordinate local transit or intercommunity routes. “This investment will improve the quality of life for many people in our communities that are currently underserved by transit,” Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP and Infrastructure Minister Monte McNaughton said in a statement. “Whether it’s seniors, students or others, access to transit helps people get where they need to be and live active, independent lives.”

Canada Ranks #1 In Global
Quality Of Life List

In exciting national news, in a study done by a Switzerland firm, Canada was ranked #1 in global quality of life list. Overall we ranked #3 in the world with categories like adventure, citizenship, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, movers, open for business, power and quality of life.

We all know as proud Canadians that we live in the best country in the world so do proceed with caution!!

RBC Lowers Fixed Mortgage Rate
Other Banks Expected To Follow

RBC lowered its advertised five-year fixed rate from 3.89 per cent to 3.74 per cent. It comes as a result of market forces bringing down the 5-year government of Canada bond yield, which is what banks base their fixed mortgages on. RBC is the first of Canada’s six biggest banks to publicly make the move, but the rest are expected to follow suit. RBC says besides falling bond yields, a number of other factors went into the decision.

Homebuyers could be in for even steeper discounts to their mortgage rate in the coming months. “Canadians who need a mortgage this year should check back frequently with rate sites and mortgage providers,” says Laird. “As the spring homebuying market approaches many lenders will offer deep discounts and promotions in order to attract new customers.”
