While Canadians from coast to coast to coast isolate themselves from the many local enjoyments they derived from their neighbourhoods prior to COVID-19, their genuine love for their local community offers many glimmers of hope in the months ahead. In our newest report, RE/MAX explores some of Canada’s best places to live, and what makes them so.
The RE/MAX 2020 RE/MAX Liveability Report explores all the qualities that make a neighbourhood “liveable,” such as access to green space, retail, transit, entertainment and more, and ranks 300+ of Canada’s Most Liveable Neighbourhoods.
The experts are not in total agreement but you have both sides of the housing market predictions in this article. Some experts at TD and other reputable companies projecting a surge in home sales once COVID health concerns grow smaller. Other experts suggesting forced sales and others will have a negative impact on sale prices.
Looking at past financial hardships and their impact on our local market we can create an idea for future predictions for our particular area. 2008 recession saw a levelling of our home prices and we saw slower growth in sale prices for a year or so. This is what we expect to happen once COVID restrictions are lifted. There will be a period before both buyers and sellers are comfortable in the process again and during that period we expect to see a levelling off of prices.
As many may think this is a buyers market amongst the COVID restrictions. The other side of that coin is that many sellers are not putting their homes on the market which creates a smaller pool of homes to buy for the smaller pool of buyers. We forecast a strong housing market once the confidence is back in the economy.

With schools closed and most families stuck at home, why not take a virtual trip to the Toronto Zoo? Although the zoo is closed to visitors due to COVID-19, staff are still working hard to make sure all the animals stay happy and healthy. Every day at 1 p.m. they'll bring the zoo to you through Facebook live sessions with staff, keepers and– of course, the animals.
If you’re looking for educational content for younger animal-lovers, the zoo has partnered with Exploring By The Seat Of Your Pants to host live streams every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 am. It’s a virtual learning program that includes additional resources so kids and families can extend their learning beyond the stream.
