November Newsletter ~ The PEDLAR Team Update

Gales Of November

We hope everyone had a safe and spooky Halloween weekend! The weather has seemed to turn and hope you all read through our list of things to do around your home before snow falls in the last newsletter. Awesome to see most the restaurants still open on weekends and providing a great meal when you don't want to cook! Don't forget to purchase local when looking for Christmas gifts this year as the local businesses need our continued support to come back stronger than ever. Have a great November and remember to pack another layer of clothing!

Check out Mark and Robyn's family costumes for Halloween! Chloe requested Frozen themed this year.

We are never far from our phones if you want to discuss the market so feel free to call us anytime at 519-238-5700.

Short Term Rental Update In Both
Lambton Shores & Bluewater Municipalities

Regarding Lambton Shores short term rentals they have closed the survey submissions and have moved on to the next stage of deciding what to do regarding short term rentals.

The consultation process is now in the stakeholder meeting phase, which involves public meetings with a variety of stakeholders in the tourism and short-term rental industry.

As a short-term rental host/operator, you are invited to attend one of three virtual stakeholder discussions:

  • Wednesday, November 10, 2021 (7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
  • Friday, November 12, 2021 (1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.)
  • Monday, November 15, 2021 (7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
Please note that these stakeholder meetings are only reserved for short-term rental owners/operators in Lambton Shores. The purpose of the stakeholder meeting is to discuss the common concerns in our communities and facilitate meaningful conversations around solutions that balance the needs of short-term rental hosts/operators with those of residents looking for safe and appropriately managed short-term rental accommodations.

Regarding Bluewater short term rentals the council has adopted a strict enforcement policy for short-term rentals in the Municipality. Municipal staff have begun an education and enforcement campaign to help residents and visitors to Bluewater understand what is and isn't allowed. The program and applicable by-laws are explained in a new short-term rental information brochure which is available through the website. Municipal Law Enforcement Officers enforce municipal by-laws. When a complaint is received, it is investigated to determine if there has been a bylaw violation. The appropriate action will then be taken to resolve the matter. At any time, an officer may enter onto land for the purpose of carrying out an inspection to determine whether or not by-laws are being obeyed. This meaning you will want to thoroughly vet all your renters to make sure it is not a big party waiting to happen.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies

We wanted to let everyone know where your local ceremonies are being held to commemorate a special day in the hearts of Canadians, November 11. Hopefully this helps you stay in the loop so you can attend your local ceremony.

Forest Cenotaph - 10:45 - 11:30

Thedford Cenotaph - 11am

Grand Bend Legion - 10:45am

In Flanders Fields - John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
